Bridging the Broadband Gap: Initial Efforts Fail
The Northern Neck Planning District Commission received word recently that their application for federal stimulus funds to provide broadband service in the area was denied. The denial noted that the application did not demonstrate the ability of the counties to provide funding beyond the grant, a core consideration in the approval process.
Although there are steps underway at the federal and state level to ensure broadband access in rural areas, this recent denial can only be seen as a setback for the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.
Currently area planners have decided not to reapply for a commerce grant due to the extensive cost associated with the process, however they will continue to pursue other available funding opportunities.

Save a life: Adopt a Pet
Cassidy is an energetic young boxer or American bulldog mix. She has spent most of her formative months in a shelter so she has missed out on much of her socialization and basic training. She would do best in a home with no children or cats. She is spayed and up to date on routine shots.
If interested in giving Cassidy a forever home and a proper chance at living life contact Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society at (804) 693-5520.
